Try reinstalling the USB port drivers:
- Open Device Manager.
- Go to the Universal Serial Bus controllers section, and uninstall everything there.
- Now reboot, and Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.

I originally moved just the “Viewer” file but if you clicked on “Home” or “Tools” on the toolbar you couldn’t go back to the “Document.” Moving all 3 files takes care of that issue. Like a lot of people I don’t and won’t ever use any of the tools. I just want a reader.

Why is the upgrade necessary?
You’ll have to upgrade to Windows 10 before you can perform a clean install. If you don’t take advantage of the upgrade process first, Windows 10 registration will never happen. There’s no way to enter a Windows 8.1 key into the Windows 10 installer, nor is there some sort of web form that will give you a Windows 10 key if you provide your Windows 8.1 key.
